Towering over the Mediterranean, Dalt Vila is an excellent example of a fortified acropolis which preserves, in its walls, the successive imprints of the earliest Phoenicians settlements and the Arab and Catalan periods through to the Renaissance bastions. The intact 16th century fortifications bear witness to the fabulous military architecture and aesthetics of the Renaissance, whilst the maze of winding alleys today play host to charming restaurants, stylish boutiques and pavement cafes. The entire area is a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site – including this wonderful palace.
Built in 1740 but completely refurbished over the past five years or so by its new northern European owner (who has lived in Ibiza for 25 years) the renovation was challenging and time-consuming. All facades and old walls are original, complying with Government and UNESCO regulations, whilst the interior has been transformed using the best quality materials and an exceptional attention to detail – including plenty of exposed stone walls and features.
Access to the six-bedroom property is via a large reception hall with a grand staircase leading to the upper floors. Also at this ground level is the ancient Phoenician tank viewable through high resistant glass flooring and a wine cellar. Moving up the building there are four en-suite bedrooms, a further master suite with private lounge and dressing room, an imposing high-ceilinged living room, dining room with wooden beams and balcony with views to the Cathedral, kitchen with storage room and pantry and a cinema room with plush red seating.
The 240m² roof terrace is a highlight with plenty of space for sunbathing and relaxing, a swimming pool with waterfall and LED illumination, an outdoor kitchen and barbecue. The views from here across Ibiza Town, Marina Ibiza, the Mediterranean and the rolling landscapes are exceptional – particularly at night. An independently accessed apartment with bedroom, bathroom, living room and kitchen plus staff accommodation (also with independent access) security system and a closed two-car garage complete this noteworthy home.
