Rome's 18th-century Trevi Fountain, famed as a setting for the film "La
Dolce Vita," is getting a 2.18 million euro ($2.9 million) restoration
courtesy of the Fendi fashion house.
The fashion house Fendi, made up of Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi and more, are looking to restore Rome's iconic Trevi Fountain, one of the most famous fountains in the world, designed by Nicola Savi.
"It's a great idea, it's a great project because this fountain is famous in the world and its a symbol of Rome like the Colosseum or San Pietro," said Lagerfeld, "I think the fashion world is lucky that brands like Fendi and some others do well enough that they can pay for these kinds of restoration."
The Italian fashion house boasts deep historical ties with the city of Rome, and has always looked to the city for endless inspiration and cultural inspiration. The restoration of the Trevi Fountain is the first of a series of conservation interventions which FENDI intends to support through “FENDI for FOUNTAINS” – a project conceived to restore and safeguard historical fountains in the city of Rome including the four late Renaissance Fountains of Piazza Quattro Fontane. This is another fashion for a cause experience, living in Europe has taught me to value the old world and it’s history and archetecture.
