34.64-carat “Princie Diamond” Sold for $39 Million at Christie’s

Rare 34.64-carat pink diamond has been sold for $39,323,750 at Christie’s (more than $1 million per carat). Dubbed as “Princie Diamond” is one of the world’s largest pink diamonds and traces its origins back to ancient diamond mines in southern India.

This rare priceless gem was allegedly once owned by the royal family of Hyderabad and, since 1960, by the London branch of Van Cleef & Arpels.

Christie’s auction house originally bought the diamond for £46,000, which is equivalent to $1.3 million today. This time it was sold to an anonymous phone bidder.
