World's largest 'flawless' Diamond

World's largest 'flawless' diamond could sell for more than $20million

Shiny things and as much bling as possible – these are exactly what many representatives of the mild gender are after. Swarovski stones and even small diamonds aren’t that a rare sight today, but a diamond weighing 101.73 carats and at the same time being known as the largest flawless diamond in the world is quite a rare thing indeed. No matter, it’s currently available for purchase, due to be going under the hammer at Christie’s, in Geneva, on the 15th of May 2013.

The flawless D Color diamond is a masterpiece of its own. Its pear shape makes it quite extravagant and extremely rare, as does its size. One of the largest pear-shaped precious stones ever to be discovered, this Type IIA flawless gem is an absolute symbol of uniqueness.

Rahul Kadakia, the leader at Christie’s Switzerland, explains: “Just as a great artist is able to ‘see’ a masterpiece in a block of marble, a perfect diamond is the result of the skill and vision of a master cutter who is able to uncover beauty from a rough gem. This diamond is in its scale, quality and rarity one of the most beautiful ‘white’ diamonds Christie’s has ever had the honor of offering for sale.”

Don’t think for one second the appellation “perfect” is something to win easily. The Gemological Institute of America, shortly known as GIA, has graded this precious brilliant under extremely hard and rigorous criteria. The rough diamond it was cut from used to weigh a total of 236 carats and was found in Botswana, at the Jwaneng mine. The polishing process alone had taken more than 21 months of painstaking work. Can’t wait to hear the final offering price!
